I only had one instance of having the runs after eating snails prepared at my great uncle's house (both my parents ate them and had the same problem). Jenn and Dan sometimes had trouble with ice, especially the one time I insisted we save money and made them by iced coffee from a questionable vendor vs. at a cafe. After that, I let them splurge more.
