Before going to Peru, we were really looking forward to seeing llamas and alpacas on our trek. But most of the animals we saw on our trek were farmed. I recently spoke to someone who trekked the Inca trail who had a wild alpaca sighting, which is very rare.

This is a vicuña, a relative of llamas and alpacas, that has more deer-like features.
